What is True Love?

You are going to read one of the sweetest things that you’ll ever come across!

In the midst of the chaos of the modern life, this story reminds us what ‘true love’ really looks and feels like.

Also, in this article, you’ll find an interview of Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki, where they share their secrets of having a healthy and loving relationship in your life.

A Japanese town called Shintomi has a beautiful tourist spot that blooms in spring with a carpet of pink flowers called the Shibazakura, which you can see below.

Do you know what’s shocking about this site?

It’s the fact that it’s a PRIVATE residence!

On any given day (between March and April), more than 7,000 people visit this site not just for its gorgeous flowers, but also for the touching love story that brought this garden into existence.

What’s The Story Of The Site?

This breath-taking plot of land was once a dairy farm. It was also the home to a young couple, Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki.

Along with 2 children, the Kurokis also cared for a herd of 60 cows without a day’s rest. They lived a tough, yet peaceful life on this plot of land.

They only had ONE dream -  one day, upon retirement, they would be able to take a well-earned trip around Japan.

However, one day, Mrs. Kuroki suddenly encountered a problem with her eyes. Unfortunately, it turned out to be more complicated than what was thought earlier and to the family’s shock, she completely lost her sight just one week later.

Mrs. Kuroki was devastated. She couldn't believe that she could no longer go on the trip that she and her husband had always dreamt of.

Feeling her life was over; she shut herself away from the world and began living a life of seclusion (in her own home).

Here’s what Mr. Kuroki said about this period of their life in a recent interview.

Mr. Kuroki: I love my wife very much. When this misfortune happened, I wanted to help her out. I could not see my beloved wife suffer!

One day I saw a few Shibazakura flowers in our garden. That’s when I thought…. if I plant these flowers in a small area of my garden, maybe my wife will want to get out of the house to smell the flowers’ fragrance.

After all, they smelled so splendidly!

And guess what? - It WORKED!

Then I decided to plant even more flowers! I just thought that if other people also came over to see the flowers, my wife wouldn't feel so lonely anymore.

Ultimately, he ended up planting 3.3 square miles of flowers! What’s more, everybody was free to come!

Now, more than a decade after the first seed was planted, the well-established garden draws visitors from all around the world.

Visitors flock to the site, not just for the beautiful flowers but also hoping to get a glimpse of Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki.

Here’s what Mrs. Kuroki says nowadays.

Mrs. Kuroki:   We dreamt of traveling the world. I had a big desire to see the world. Due to my disease, we had to stay at home.

But my loving husband, made the world came to us!

This is wonderful. I communicate with guests from all around the country, and even with foreigners! Now I never feel lonely. People support me, and I finally have meaning in my life again.

Journalist: Could you share your secret of love?

Mr. Kuroki: You should marry for love, once and for all. If you decide to be together, you should support each other no matter what.

I don’t care that my beloved wife can’t see me.

I want to tell everyone: ‘even if your loved one has fatal illness, it doesn't matter. You two make up one whole. And this is eternal.

Hold on to each other until the last breath.’

I will care about my wife for the rest of my life. I love her now, just as much as I did 60 years ago.

For me, she is still the same young, giggling beauty.  And I believe that many happy years are waiting for us ahead. In Japan, people live long, and we wish to live at least a 100 years.

Mrs. Kuroki’s Advice:

You should respect each other, and don’t forget to say words of love. Most importantly, BE GRATEFUL.

Be grateful simply for the fact that your loved one is near you. This is the most precious thing in life.

Even though I can’t see it, I know for sure that my husband has created the most beautiful garden in the world. I’m very grateful that he did it for me. His love is what makes me want to love.
